Constipation - 4 Natural Ayurvedic Home Remedies for Immediate Relief from Constipation & Piles

A common ailment resulting from sedentary lifestyles and eating wrong foods at wrong times is constipation, where passing stool becomes difficult and sometimes painful.

Besides the obvious abdominal discomfort, constipation can also cause gas and headaches. You can sometimes have bad breath, and a bad taste in the mouth also.

To get the sluggish bowels to function properly, start the day with drinking at least 2-3 litres of water on an empty stomach.
Alternatively, if drinking plain water is a problem, you may try the following.

Take a glass of warm water.
Add the juice of half a lemon.
Mix in ½ tsp of salt.
Stir well.
Have this every morning on an empty stomach.

The powder of fennel seeds, popularly known as saunf, is also very effective for constipation. Mix about ½ tsp in a glass of water at room temperature and drink about 2-3 times a day.

Olive oil, which is known for its several health benefits, can also help with constipation problems, just a tlbsp taken in the morning. If you find it difficult to drink plain olive oil, add in ½ tsp of lime juice.

Soak about 15-20 raisins in some water in the morning.
Eat these the next morning together with the water they are soaked in.
Make sure you use drinking water to soak the raisins.

Psyllium husk, popularly known as isabgol, has been proven to be extremely effective for constipation. You can take about 10-15 g at bedtime mixed in water, milk, or even yoghurt, or have it in 2-3 divided does during the day.

These are just some remedies you can try, which would definitely be better than heading to the pharmacy for laxatives. However, to ensure the smooth functioning of your bowels, make it a lifestyle habit to include lots of fibre-rich food in your diet, namely fresh fruit and raw vegetables, and try to walk at just about every opportunity you can.
